Kurlan Barbosa was born in Brazil and moved to Knoxville, Tennessee when he was 13 years old. Three years later he moved to Baton Rouge, where he completed high school and attended college at Louisiana State University. He joined Enrema LLC in 2011 as a production engineer and currently holds his position as asset engineer. He began his career in petroleum engineering after graduating from LSU, where he worked at the university’s IT department and completed an internship with DOR Engineering.

Immediately after graduating he began working with Pathfinder Energy Services in Texas and Louisiana. Quickly after that he applied to Enrema and accepted the job of production engineer where he worked on testing the Chattanooga shale, discovered new reservoirs in Fentress county, and helped implement secondary recovery projects. Two years later he received and accepted a job offer with Consol Energy in Pittsburgh, only to return to Enrema soon after.

His primary responsibilities include assuring the wells are producing at a maximum, reactivating wells they have inherited, and finding expansion projects for the company. Additionally, he works in conjunction other operators in the area to bring better production for their wells, supervises the geology and GIS departments, and works with state and federal regulators to guarantee the company in compliance with all statutes at all times.

Outside of his professional life, Barbosa enjoys playing sports and likes to continue to advance academically by reading history books and biographies of influential people. Eventually he wants to pursue his professional engineering license and get his MBA.
