Hugh Ebbutt

Hugh Ebbutt has 36 years of experience in the energy business.  His main areas of focus and expertise are in strategic evaluation of portfolios and competitive positioning in the upstream oil and gas sector, the evaluation of growth options, and identification of the distinctive capabilities needed to realise most value.  He also advises on potential acquisitions in oil and gas and on a range of complex international legal disputes and arbitrations.

His oil experience includes five years with Chevron, working in Business Planning, Exploration and Development, working on transactions with Hess, as it rapidly grew in the North Sea, after seven formative years with BP in Exploration – in the UK, San Francisco and Egypt. He was a Partner in Arthur D. Little’s Global Energy Practice, based originally in London and then in Houston, where he led and grew ADL’s upstream business.  He now works as an independent consultant.

He has published articles on the outlook for energy resources, factors driving demand and supply, company business models, positioning and strategies, reserves and resource issues, climate change and energy policy.
